Posterous and importing
I'm not a patient person, so I created a mini dump of my wordpress to try importing here at Posterous. All I'm after is seeing how Posterous handles the existing URLs from my old posts. See, with wordpress it has permalinks like "/year/month/some-cleaned-version-of-the-post-title" and I want to know if Posterous will play along.
After just a few minutes I get the email that the mini-import has succeeded. Bigger than shit, Posterous makes permalinks like "/some-cleaned-and-truncated-version-of-the-title". So importing all my old wordpress dreck and pointing the domain name here instead will break any existing links. There aren't many existing links, but they are out there.
Figures...
Now about the three day wait on the other import. While creating the mini dump I noticed that wordpress added some extra crap to the beginning of the file. Specifically, some plugin isn't working nicely with the exporter, and the first several lines consist of "<b>Warning</b>: include_once() [function.include]: Failed opening '../../../wp-settings.php' for inclusion blah blah blah wp-codebox.php" blah. I manually removed all that from the mini dump before uploading here. I can't help but wonder if that's what is borking the import of the bigger dump. Big dump isn't really that huge, only 160k, so I can't imagine it's a size issue.
Of course it doesn't much matter since the URLs will be broken if I move the domain here anyway. So I guess I'll cancel the older import and figure out something else. Besides, why in the hell do I need a blog anyway?
